Capital Challenge Walk MS is an incredible journey of a lifetime, moving us all two days and 50 K closer to a world free of MS.
Capital Challenge Walk MS is an endurance challenge hosted by the National MS Society. The event will raise funds to end multiple sclerosis (MS), increase public awareness of the disease, and promote health and fitness. The Challenge Walk is expected to host several hundred walkers and volunteers and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support local chapter programs and services, as well as national research initiatives. We'll be there with you every step of the way during this life-changing journey.
September 20-21, 2014
On Friday night, September 19th, we’ll have a group dinner. (By RSVP only. Dinner is limited to 80 people. Please submit your RSVPs to firstname.lastname@example.org.) Packet pick-up will take place at the same location from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. before the program starts. This dinner will feature a talk by local researcher Vittorio Gallo, PhD. His work takes place at Children’s Hospital, here in DC, and he is working on a pill for people with MS. This pill will BLOCK an inhibitor that stops myelin from re-growing naturally. Dr. Gallo believes that his pill can stop that inhibitor molecule, and that there is a good chance that he could restore function in people with MS, and he’s going to talk about his research that night.
On Saturday, September 20th, we start in GEICO in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and the new route will feature many exciting sites and suggested detours including the National Zoo (that’s right!), the National Cathedral, Embassy Row, the White House, the Washington Monument, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Tidal Basin, the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the Kennedy Center! We’ll overnight in Arlington at the Kenmore Middle School (you can choose the gym floor for free, or you can book a hotel room that we can recommend to you!).
On Sunday, September 21st, we’ll walk past Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and finish on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol – It’s going to be amazing!
Each Challenge Walk participant is asked to submit a non-refundable registration fee* and raise a minimum of $1,500.
For teams, there are two options. The team captain may choose to have each member register individually and submit his or her own registration fee. Or, the team captain can register the team and pay a team registration fee, which covers registration for the entire team. Volunteers, Crew, and Super Crew do not pay a registration fee.
$25/person or $100/team until 2/1/2014
$40/person or $150/team until 5/1/2014
$55/person or $200/team until event weekend
People of all levels of ability are encouraged to come out and join the fun while supporting the thousands of people who live daily with the challenges and uncertainties of multiple sclerosis in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Everyone who participates walks away with a life-changing experience!
