Below are detailed descriptions of volunteer opportunities

Cheering Squad

Organize groups to cheer the walkers on along the route and at the start and finish lines.

Finish Line Fun & Festivities

Decorate the Challenge Walk MS event site and route to provide a festive and exciting atmosphere for volunteers and participants. Ensure that walkers feel a strong emotional impact as they cross the finish line so that they will feel their efforts have been worthwhile. Ensure that the property we are using is attractive, decorated, well maintained during the event and left in good order.

Food Services

Help set up, serve and clean up breakfast and/or lunch to participants and volunteers.

General Activities

Assist with execution of weekend activities.

Labor

Set up and breakdown of all tents, tables, chairs and supplies for each area of the Challenge Walk MS, providing participants with an enjoyable experience. Ensure the property that we are using is left in good order.

Massage Therapists

Help soothe the aching muscles and feet of the hundreds of walkers who are putting their bodies to the test. Massage therapists are at rest stops and at finish each day.

Medical/First Aid

Trained medical professionals are needed at the start, finish, on the route and at rest stops to monitor injuries and well-being of walkers.

Office Support

Volunteer at the National MS Society office and help prepare, organize and distribute Challenge Walk MS materials.

Route markers are assigned the task of placing and removing directional arrows along the entire route. Route marker volunteers are also instructed to check for unsafe conditions along the walk route and report anything of potential interest via cell phone.

Photographers

Use your photography skills to capture moments of challenge and triumph. Must provide own camera. National MS Society provides film.

Requirements: Strong photographic skills needed. 35mm preferred.

Rest Stops

Provide transportation and support to walkers who need assistance along the route. Basic supplies will be provided for rest stops, but we encourage all rest stop volunteers/crew members to go the extra mile! Decorations, themed rest stops, candy, music, etc. are a big hit at rest stops...and remember, all rest stops are judged by the walkers and a daily winning rest stop will be announced each night!

Requirements: Must be 21 years or older to drive an event vehicle (or with someone that qualifies). Must provide a copy of valid driver's license and vehicle insurance. Must have own vehicle.
