Capital Challenge Walk MS is an endurance challenge hosted by the National MS Society. The event will raise funds to end multiple sclerosis (MS), increase public awareness of the disease, and promote health and fitness. The Challenge Walk is expected to host several hundred walkers and volunteers and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support local chapter programs and services, as well as national research initiatives. We'll be there with you every step of the way during this life-changing journey.
Every mile you walk means more dollars to help those facing daily challenges of living with MS. A minimum fundraising goal of $1,500 is required and we’ll be with you every step of the way with fundraising tools, training assistance, group support and much more. Plus, with our powerful online fundraising tools, we’ve made it easier than ever for your friends and family to contribute. Go to your Participant Center.
Connect with others: Start a team
Share your Challenge Walk MS experience by starting a team. Any group of four or more people can form a team — consider asking friends, family, your co-workers or people in your community. Learn more about teams.
Challenge Walk MS is a fully supported event. You train and fundraise, with our help every step of the way, and we’ll take care of you at the event.
A word from our Chapter President
To our beloved Challenge Walkers, past and present!
Let’s walk together in The Monument Tour 2014 – and raise money to fund a cure that can restore function in people with MS!
If we can raise $400,000 this year from Challenge Walk, this Chapter can donate over $1 Million to fund research for a cure for MS.
The National Capital Chapter is very excited to share our new plans for Challenge Walk 2014 – we’ve made some HUGE changes! Thanks to the input and feedback from many Challenge Walkers, in a series of focus groups and personal discussions, you’ll see a new route, a new goal for our fundraising and a new, fun experience for all who participate! So, no matter what your experience has been in the past, come together with us as a family of Challenge Walkers to fund a cure for MS!
Here are the details:
On Friday night, September 19th, we’ll have a group dinner. (By RSVP only. Dinner is limited to 80 people. Please submit your RSVPs to firstname.lastname@example.org.) Packet pick-up will take place at the same location from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. before the program starts. This dinner will feature a talk by local researcher Vittorio Gallo, PhD. His work takes place at Children’s Hospital, here in DC, and he is working on a pill for people with MS. This pill will BLOCK an inhibitor that stops myelin from re-growing naturally. Dr. Gallo believes that his pill can stop that inhibitor molecule, and that there is a good chance that he could restore function in people with MS, and he’s going to talk about his research that night.
On Saturday, September 20th, we start at 8:30 a.m. at GEICO 5260 Western Ave. Chevy Chase, Maryland, and the new route will feature many exciting sites and suggested detours including the National Zoo (that’s right!), the National Cathedral, Embassy Row, the White House, the Washington Monument, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Tidal Basin, the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the Kennedy Center! We’ll overnight at the Kenmore Middle School in Arlington (you can choose the gym floor for free, or you can book a hotel room that we can recommend to you!).
On Sunday, September 21st, we’ll walk past Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and finish on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol – It’s going to be amazing!
